The Multilingual App Store - iPhone i18n tutorial part 3
Translating App Store Descriptions
Apple Official iTunes languages:
- Chinese* (simplified)
- Dutch
- English (Australian, Canadian, UK and US)
- French (and Canadian French)
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean*
- Portuguese* (and Brazilian Portuguese)
- Russian*
- Spanish (and Mexican Spanish)
- Swedish*
* These languages was added in early November 2009.
To access your app's localization description, just navigate through Manage Your Applications, then choose the app's description you wish to translate and click Edit Information. This should bring up the app information summary page. Here you need to click Localization. Now choose the language for which you would like to submit a translation and it will automatically bring up the page asking for a description in that language as well as screenshots, if you have them available.
Also, when you have app updates and are using a translation service don't forget to translate what's new in the latest version as well as any promotional lines you might want to eventually add to the top of your description like "SPECIAL OFFER: 50% OFF UNTIL END OF JULY!" so you can immediately get those offers out when they occur.
If you want to have an app description in a language not officially supported by Apple, be aware that you will have to upload a separate app for this market and again for each update. You can, however, upload the same binary for each language, since you can have all the languages in every version of your app. Depending on the nature of your app and your target audience, you might find this to be appropriate.
